Studio Art

Capturing a moment—depicting one’s immediate environment on paper—is instinctual for many young people. Most children can’t remember the first time they picked up a crayon and drew a picture. With me, my early fascination with animals probably led me to start drawing the family pets before most other things. Nature has always awed me, whether it comes in the form of looming storms, moving sunsets, deep green forests, the human body, or the expressive eyes of a furry beast.

Most of the samples below were created more than 20 years ago, during my university life drawing classes, and a few were created during high school. Charcoal has always been one of my favourite mediums, and I hope to pick it back up one of these days soon.

(Note: the name Jaross, as found on many of these samples, was my maiden name.)
